Two Meals a Day

On a blustery and often wet day in June Inspector Nick Cheshire, Sergeant Craig Miller, Sergeant Dan Smith and his wife, together with PC Juliette Bringloe and Tim Amphlett from the Safe Neighbourhood team at Great Yarmouth set out from Norwich Cathedral to take part in a sponsored cycle ride. Their objective was to raise the £1,000 needed to cover the cost of providing breakfast at the GOVI Resource Centre.Below - a pupil enjoying his breakfast.

They had no time to enjoy the views of the beautiful North Norfolk coast as the rain showers started and the wind picked up. Disaster struck when Craig was brought down by a cyclist from another group. Despite a sore shoulder and bruises he carried on. The spire of Norwich Cathedral was a welcome sight several hours later as Nick, Craig and Juliette completed the 100-mile circular route. Dan and his wife with Tim completed 50 miles. All were delighted when later they found they had exceeded their target by raising £1,159.
This means that the Friends can maintain the breakfast programme throughout this school year. They have also paid for fish to be added to the lunchtime menu this autumn. The World Food Programme through its Food for Education project is providing the rice, cooking oil and peas. To help GOVI fulfill the requirements of the WFP the Friends paid for the kitchen to be renovated and for the cook to have a medical examination which she passed successfully.
