School Repainted
The head teacher, Ali Sallah, reported in September 2010 that the pupils had returned to a very bright school as the Friends' representative in the Gambia, Lamin Saidy, had had the exterior and all the classrooms repainted during August. This and some other general repairs cost the Friends about £2,400.

As a gesture of good will to the Gambian Organisation of the Visually Impaired (GOVI) it was agreed that Laminy could also have repairs carried out to the caretaker’s house and the security hut as well as providing some new roofing for the GOVI office to stop a leak.

The Friends paid for the refurbishment of the kitchen and a medical checkup for the cook to help the school and GOVI fulfill the conditions of an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP is now supporting feeding programmes at special needs schools in the Gambia by providing the basics required for lunch. The Friends are supplementing that at the school for the blind as well as continuing to pay for the bread and fillings for the children’s breakfast.
