A thank you for Braille and audio story books

Thousands of Braille and audio books have been sent to the school in the Gambia thanks to Nicky Searle.

This week, after lifting the 15th box of books for the visually impaired from the local post van in two days, I phoned Nicky to thank her. She, however, told me that this was the last collection of books as she is leaving the West of England School and College for Visually Impaired, Exeter, at the end of this term. A few years ago a colleague of Nicky’s, Bill Battie, visited the school and later contacted us to ask if we could use Braille and large print books.

Nicky took on the task of packing and forwarding to us a selection of wonderful books both for adults and children. Joan repacked these into smaller boxes so that they could be sent free of charge under the white cane scheme.

Two months ago approximately 1,000 audio story books were sent to us. These were catalogues and repacked by Joan and are now in use at the school. I would like to thank Nicky for all her work in packing and sending us the books and wish her well in the future.
